non-Euclidean geometry

The term non-Euclidean geometry (also spelled: noneuclidian geometry) describes both hyperbolic and elliptic geometry, which are contrasted with Euclidean geometry. The essential difference between Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry is the nature of parallel lines.
